What’s the most iconic line from any Batman movie; “I am Batman”, “Some men just want to watch the world burn”, “Hand down the shark-repellent Batspray!” (yes that actually happened, in Batman: The Movie 1966), or even “Martha!”? My answer would be none of the above. The most culture shifting, memorable, one-liner in the history of Batman on film would absolutely have to be from Joel Schumacher’s 1997 franchise killing film; Batman and Robin. Within that film, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze delivered the bone chilling battle cry of; “Let’s kick some ice!”. And to the dismay, and excitement of many DCEU fans, Schwarzenegger expressed his interest for more.
In a recent interview with Fandango, Schwarzenegger was asked if he would ever break his hiatus of acting in comic-book movies; and his response was promising.
“Absolutely! I think all of those movies, if they’re written well, they’re entertaining. If it’s ‘Batman’ or ‘Batman & Robin,’ or ‘X-Men’ or ‘Spider-Man’ — all of them. If they’re written well, they have a great life. People enjoy them, and you can see the grosses that they make worldwide. So, yes, of course I would.”
As a consumer of superhero movies, this has to be exciting. Can anyone imagine a universe where the same Mr. Freeze, in his bubbling, punny goodness, is pitted against Ben Affleck’s dark and brooding batman!? Who knows, maybe that crazy tonal switch could be the catalyst that pushes Warner Brother’s comic book movies to being critically acclaimed as well as enjoyed by their fans.
