Wonder Woman is the most iconic female superhero in existence. On June 2nd, 2017, Wonder Woman will have her solo movie starring Gal Gadot as the titular heroine. There are many reasons to be excited for this film, so here are five of them:

Wonder Woman finally gets her shot

When you think of superheroes in tv shows and movies, you think of Batman, Superman, the MCU, and the DC CW shows. Wonder Woman has struggled to find herself in as many tv shows, movies or even video names. In 1967, Who’s Afraid of Diana Prince was supposed to air but was never broadcasted. From 1975 to 1979,  Lynda Carter portrayed Wonder Woman in the show Wonder Woman. However, the show rarely dealt with comic book villains and was more of Diana vs regular criminals instead of Ares or Cheetah. Wonder Woman has appeared in several animated tv shows and had her own animated movie. In 2011, there was a pilot episode for a Wonder Woman show starring Adrianne Palicki as Diana Prince, but it was never fully released. She has also appeared in a bunch of other DCAU films, including Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, Justice League: Gods and Monsters, and Justice League: Doom. This may seem like a lot but compared to Batman… it’s not even close! With her appearing in Batman v Superman and now in her own movie, she is finally gaining the recognition she deserves.

Hope for the DCEU

We have all heard the complaints about the DCEU. Critics complained about all three films in the DCEU and have given them poor reviews. Wonder Woman is another shot for the DCEU to gain traction and silence the haters. One complaint we hear about a lot is the DCEU is too dark and that Superman isn’t happy and smiling like he always is. From the three Wonder Woman trailers we have gotten, we can see the movie is going for a full balance of action, storytelling and comedy. Diana seems to be a very serious character, while Steve and Etta proved comic relief. The films also seems to have brightened up the color scheme, which has also been a complaint from fans and others. The film is the second solo character film in the DCEU. It should provide a change of pace for the universe.

Great Cast

This film, like the other DC films, features a cast full of stars. Gal Gadot reprises her role as Diana Prince. Many people say that she was the best part of Batman v Superman, and I’m sure every fan loved her performance. Chris Pine plays Steve Trevor, Diana’s friend and part time love interest. He looks like he will bring the majority of the comic relief. Robin Wright, from House of Cards, plays Antiope. She will be training Diana before she leaves for man’s world. Danny Huston also stars as an unconfirmed role. Could he be playing Ares, who is confirmed to be the main bad guy?! Elena Anaya, Connie Nelson and David Thewlis round off the cast.

Learned from Mistakes

Everyone remembers the third trailer for Batman v Superman, even though it was labeled the second trailer. The trailer reveals Doomsday as a big villain in the film. The move was heavily criticized and many felt they made their biggest mistake revealing him. For Suicide Squad, we saw FOUR trailers which revealed a lot of footage. Some footage was even cut from the film. With the Wonder Woman trailers, it seems very different. The trailers haven’t given too much away from it story, just the main theme of the movie. We know Ares is the main villain, but we haven’t seen him in his costume yet nor do we know who is playing him. The bad guy’s plan hasn’t been revealed yet. There is plenty surprises left for the movie.

Unique Action

We all loved that Batman warehouse scene fight in Batman v Superman, and Superman’s fight scenes against Zod, the Kryptonians and Doomsday. Wonder Woman brings a new fight style to the DCEU. She uses a sword, shield and lasso compared to Superman using brute strength and Batman using his gadgets and fists. Diana is in the middle as she has the fighting style like Batman but strength and power of Superman. We will see her take on plain soldiers to the God of War himself. We should expect some epic, well-choreographed action scenes.
