According to Todd Fisher, brother of Carrie, Leia will make an appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX.

After months of speculations about Carrie’s future in the Star Wars saga, Todd has revealed that Disney wants to bring Princess Leia back for Episode: IX. And he said he and Carrie’s Daughter, Billie Lourd have granted the studio to use some unused recent footage for the final installment in the trilogy, So we can tell that there will be no CGI used for the movie.

“She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that’s what’s happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue,” Fisher said.

There’s no news as to what extent Leia will feature in the film, especially given the general was meant to be a bigger part of Episode IX than she was in VIII. When asked about it, Fisher explained “I’m not the only part in that equation.”

He said he had total faith in the filmmakers to “do great things.”

“You don’t mess with this legacy,” he stated. “It would be like rewriting the Bible. To me, Star Wars is the holy grail of storytelling and lore and you can’t mess with it.”

Fisher also expressed his gratitude at the response after his families recent losses and teased that he’s striving to complete some works he and his sister had started together.

What do you think? Will Carrie have a larger role in Episode IX or will it be short cameo? Will Leia actually appear  in Episode IX?

UPDATE (14/04/17) –

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said during an interview with ABC News on Friday at the “Star Wars Celebration” in Orlando that Carrie Fisher won’t appear in Episode IX.

“Sadly, Carrie will not be in IX. But we’ll see a lot of her in VIII, which is great.”

“[Todd Fisher] was probably confused because we finished everything in VIII, and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie. We’re so happy that we were able to complete shooting in the summer. Unfortunately, Carrie passed away,” Kennedy said.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit the cinemas in December 15, 2017 while Episode IX has an official release date of May 24, 2019.
