Arrow’s second season big bad returns for more.

On April 10th, Stephen Amell (Arrow, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of The Shadows), the man under the hood of Green Arrow, confirmed the return of Arrow’s second season villain, Deathstroke, played by Manu Bennett (Arrow, The Hobbit).

This was confirmed through a tweet on Stephen Amell’s account saying, “Desperate times call for desperate measures. Welcome back @manubennett,” accompanied by a picture of Deathstroke’s helmet. The tweet can be seen below:

Although Deathstroke’s return may be shocking news, Wendy Mericle, an executive producer on Arrow was quoted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly saying:

“You’re not going to believe who Oliver is working with to defeat Prometheus. It’s going to be really emotional. It’s going to be all about Oliver’s family, but not the family we’re thinking of right now. It’s going to end in a giant explosion, but not where we think it’s going to end, and the emotional punch is going to be bigger than the actual physical part of the bombs going off.”

The last time Deathstroke appeared on the show was earlier this season, during the 100th episode. However, the last time the audience saw Slade Wilson was in an episode of the third season, The Return. However the writers have primed Bennett’s role for his return, it is bound to be big. In March, Stephen Amell brought his followers’ attention to the season finale, saying it will be “sensational.” That tweet can be seen below:

This leaves room to speculate how the events will occur in the season finale, including the possibility of a Deathstroke and Team Arrow partnership to defeat Prometheus, as well as the impact of Slade Wilson’s return, and what that will mean to Oliver, who has struggled with facing the consequences of his past decisions the entirety of this season.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 PM ET/PT on The CW.
