In what could ONLY be described as a picture perfect casting choice, Deadline is reporting that Will Smith has begun discussions with Walt Disney Pictures to star as Genie, a role made famous by the late, great Robin Williams, in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin.
While Smith often poked fun at his “Dumbo” ears on his sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, it seems he is destined to play an equally iconic Disney character on the big screen.
While it has yet to be confirmed, fans of Disney have to be excited about the prospect of Smith’s involvement. He has been teasing a return to music for several years, few could have imagined that could be as a cast member of a live-action musical version of Aladdin. But if fans learned anything from Beauty and the Beast, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s involvement in Little Mermaid, and the recent confirmation of music being included in the live-action remake of Mulan, the musical aspect of the original animated features will play a big role in the upcoming slew of remakes.
Stay tuned to @GEEKMOTIVATION for more on this developing story!
