“It’s a square peg in a round hole,” famed Disney Imagineer Joe Rhode calls his newest addition to Disney’s California Adventure. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror was one of the most popular attractions at the Disneyland Resort, so at last year’s Comic-Con when the re-skin to be themed Guardians of the Galaxy was announced, it was met with extreme hostility. As the months went on, the Tower of Terror started to dematerialize in-front of guest’s eyes, until finally in January of 2017 it fully closed from the public until the scheduled May 27th when Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! is set to open.

Throughout the last couple months, guests have been able to see the 1930s style hotel transform into the Collector’s palace, featuring a new paint job, as well as alien tech / random junk on the facade. The project seems to be very rushed so it can open along side Marvel’s upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume Two, but many fans have complained, simply because the new look is much too flashy. Mission Breakout is placed in a Hollywood themed area of the park, so every 10 minutes or so one can see an old-school red trolly pass by the entrance to what now is supposed to be an alien structure.

I AM HERE TO TELL YOU WHY THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME. Marvel created the idea of  a shared universe, not only within their many films, but also in their TV shows and comics. Consumers can seamlessly watch Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. and be completely aware that this is happening in the same world the Avengers protect, and also Squirrel Girl runs around in the comics; so why should we expect anything less from the upcoming Marvel Land in Disneyland?

On April 10th, the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok hit the internet, and in the background of one of the shots seems to be a familiar building … *minor spoilers ahead*

The rumor is that the main villain of the film is apart of a group called “The Elders” along with The Collector from Guardians of the Galaxy, who is also the owner of the new building in Disney’s California Adventure. A majority of the film will take place on Planet Sakaar, which can be seen in the Planet Hulk storyline from the comics. This planet is notorious for having wormhole problems, ripping things from different planets and dimensions and dropping them there.

Along with aliens, there is a lot of space junk that gets left on the planet, similar to what can be seen stuck to the whole outside of the new drop ride. What many are hoping, is that The Collector will make a cameo in Ragnarok to buy the building and turn it into his museum (which is already the premise for the attraction). Once this happens, however, the worm holes from Sakaar will rip the building out from the ground and drop it in 1930s Hollywood!

This could just be wishful thinking, but it was somewhat hinted at in another interview with Joe Rhode when he said; “it’s almost if (the building) came out of nowhere and then … Kabloom!” Maybe he was referencing post-credit scene where this actually happens? Disney has said, throughout an undisclosed amount of time, the Hollywood Land area of the park will gradually turn into Marvel Land, coinciding with the films. Who’s to say that this isn’t the first step in the process …
