Along with releasing the film’s first official logo, Warner Brothers announced that May 3rd, 2017 was the first day of principal photography for James Wan’s Aquaman. Most of the filming will be done in Australia, along the Gold Coast of Queensland with heavy duty filming to be done at Village Roadshow Studios, Queensland. Other filming locations include Sicily, Newfoundland and Tunisia.

Director James Wan also took to Twitter to announce the culmination of prep work behind the movie:

The film is set to open in theaters on December 21, 2018 and stars Jason Momoa in the title role. This will not be Momoa’s first appearance as Arthur Curry, as he debuted the role in a brief cameo in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and is set to reprise his role in this year’s Justice League.

In the same press release, Warner Brothers announced the rest of the main cast:

The film also stars Amber Heard (Justice League, Magic Mike XXL) as Mera; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Platoon, Spider-Man 2) as Vulko; Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Green Lantern) as Tom Curry; Dolph Lundgren (The Expendables) as Nereus; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (upcoming Baywatch, Netflix’s The Get Down) as Black Manta; with Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring, Watchmen) as Orm/Ocean Master; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (The HoursLion) as Queen Atlanna.
