It’s always good to see Hollywood embrace diversity, for me a viewer, diversity is important for me. I’m happy to report that F. Gary Gray directed a movie that topped the charts and earned over $1 billion dollars. That movie was the newly released Fast and Furious movie; The Fate of the Furious. Most of the earnings for the movie was from overseas, which we don’t see with movies that are directed by African-Americans, because they don’t play movies that are directed by African-Americans overseas.
So far Gary’s worldwide career gross stands at about $1.93 billion, which makes him one of the most successful black directors of all time. A big thumbs up for that. Since The Fate of the Furious is still in the box office its projected to surpass the $2 billion mark, which would be cool to see.
This isn’t the first movie he’s directed that has made big in the box office. The movie that turned him into the big director we know was, Straight Outta Compton which got $201m at the box office.
His hard work as a movie director paid off, big props and congratulations to him for this cool achievement. I hope this gets the ball rolling on having not only a diverse cast, but also diverse people behind the scenes.
