Matt Nix’s X-Men TV show The Gifted was officially ordered to series recently by FOX as they revealed a teaser trailer for the new show. FOX released an extended trailer of the upcoming X-Men TV series that will be arriving in the 2017-2018 TV Season, and they also released new promo art for the series (link for trailer below and new promo art pictured).
Gifted Trailer!
The cast for the series includes Stephen Moyer (True Blood) as Reed Strucker, Amy Acker (Person of Interest) as Caitlin Strucker, Sean Teale (Incorporated) as Marcos Diaz a.k.a. Eclipse, Jamie Chung (Once Upon a Time) as Clarice Fong a.k.a Blink, Coby Bell (Burn Notice) as Jace Turner, Emma Dumont (Pretty Little Liars) as Lorna Dane a.k.a. Polaris, Blair Redford (Switched at Birth) as John Proudstar a.k.a Thunderbird, Natalie Alyn Lind (Gotham) as Lauren Strucker, and Percy Hynes White (11.22.63) as Andy Strucker.
The Gifted follows that story of a suburban couple whose lives are changed forever when they discover that their children have gained mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and learn to fight for their survival.
As a fan of mutants myself, my excitement for the show has only grown has time as went on. However, why should we be excited for this series? What makes this different from the many films of mutants that we already have?
Based off the trailer alone, we see that the powers and experiences that these teens face are different than ones we’ve seen in the past. In the past people have found for the original X-Men movies to be, well, lack luster at best. However, with this being formatted as a show the audience can gain so many of the little details about what really takes place when becoming a mutant in the world. This show also shakes up our world by including mutants most people have never seen before. The fact we get a change from the key characters totally gives the franchise a new face, and maybe even the kickstart it needs to becoming truly great.
This show also experiments with some unique cast members in my opinion. Some of these faces may also be unknown to the audience. After looking into them however, the choices they made seem to be good after all. Giving new faces to mutants of the world could really bring this show full circle. This show gives the fresh start that the mutant world needed, and no time line change was even required!
In a nutshell however, the reason to feel true excitement for this show is the fact that it’s a change. This is a totally new chance to win back over the fans that were left disappointed by some the X-Men franchise’s early installments. So much more can be learned about the mutant world as well, and with a whole fresh face of mutants to show us, how can things go wrong? We can’t simply base a whole series off of the trailer alone, but if we could this one would be a hit in my books!
