Baywatch is the reboot of the long running television show and nails most of what it is going for even with its flaws. The film follows Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) leading his life guard team in their mission of protecting the beach and the area in general. Buchannon’s team deals with the arrival and sporadic behavior of former Olympian swimmer Matt Brody (Zac Efron) to their team, who has recently had a falling out from his success. The team also faces the dangerous exploits of Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra), a new club owner in the area.

Most of this film works. The best part of the film is the humor between Johnson and Efron. Johnson continues to excel at playing fun and charismatic characters, which made him a perfect choice for this film. Efron is also good in his role. Kelly Rohrbach has her first big role in a film as C.J. Parker, the role made famous by Pamela Anderson on the television show. Rohrbach does a decent job for someone relatively new to acting. The other actors aren’t amazing, but they work well in their roles.

The action set pieces and story are both decent enough to complement the humor and fun the film thrives at. The film is directed by Seth Gordon and is better than Pixels, but isn’t quite as good as Horrible Bosses to other films he helmed. David Hasselhoff and Anderson both make short, but effective cameos in the film. The film is enjoyable and entertaining despite some sloppiness in the third act and is worthy of a sequel.

Rating- 4/5
