Based on the comics with the same name, iZombie tells the story of Olivia “Liv” Moore (Rose McIver), a med resident who’s turned into a zombie in a boat party. When she realizes she needs brains to still act “human”, she starts working at the M.E office, with Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli), to get access to brains. What she realizes a bit later is, that whenever she eats brains, she inherits for some time the personality traits of said brains and has flashbacks of their life. She assists Detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) with murder cases pretending to be a psychic.

Not your usual zombie content, I know. That’s what makes this show so good.

The police procedural and horror-fantasy aspects of the show prove to be an extremely entertaining combination. Each case allows the viewers to view Liv in a different facet, more than often hilarious. The main plot also pieces itself together with each episode, adding the drama aspect of the show and enabling the characters’ development.

Throughout these three seasons one can’t help but admire the actors’ work, especially Rose McIver’s. She’s amazing and her performance makes viewers laugh and cry. Sure, with each case, we get to see the brains effects on Liv and they usually ensue shenanigans, but we also see Liv’s struggle with her loss of humanity. Viewers see how these changes affect her relationships with her loved one and how the idea of never being human again breaks her. This is a show with an interesting and fun plot. With each weekly case Liv Moore will make you chuckle more than once and break your heart at the same time. This beautiful contrast makes this tv series entertaining and touching and makes it easy for viewers to connect and care for this characters and their story.

If you like zombies, procedurals and comedy, you should check out iZombie, it’s quite unique. The show got renewed for a fourth season and it’s currently airing its third, so now is a great time to start watching. I guarantee you, you won’t regret it.
