American Odyssey and Smash star, Tala Ashe is set to join the cast of Legends of Tomorrow as a series regular for the shows coming season.

Tala Ashe has been officially casted as Zari Adrianna Tomaz or better known in DC comics as ISIS (no not that one). While from a general audience view Zari may be somewhat of a obscure character, however, Zari is no stranger to being on the small screen. Zari has once had her own show in the 1970’s titled The Secrets of Isis which only ran for about a year. Zari has also appeared in another popular CW Show, Smallville. Zari in Smallville did have a true to comics costume but with this knowledge, it makes me wonder how she will look in Legends of Tomorrow; however she may look, the studio did provide a description of her character:

A Muslim-American woman from the year 2030, Zari lives in a world of contradictions. Technology has brought about incredible change in her future — too bad human nature hasn’t kept pace. Fear, prejudice, and a lack of care for the planet have forced Zari to become a “grey hat hacktivist.” A computer nerd with a wry, combative attitude. A woman living a double life who doesn’t realize that she has secret, latent powers derived from an ancient, mystical source.

It is also worthy to note that she is a Muslim-American which can provide a character which hopefully can resonate with many people of the same group. As we read throughout her description it sounds sort of similar to Hawkgirl’s origin in the arrowverse, but it does take a turn where she instead is a computer geek. The description provided does make an interesting character that I want to learn more about and I am excited to see her in the future of the show.

Zari’s comic book history is very rich full of Lore that can be explored in a whole other article, but what can be noted is that she is heavily connected with Shazam and Black Adam. With Zari’s connection with two iconic characters it raises the question of will these connection come in to fruition in Legends of Tomorrow? Whatever Zari brings to the show, it will most likely be something big considering that she is set to be a series regular.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 will air this Fall on Tuesdays following The Flash.
