A question that most Star Wars fans ask is, “How did Vader change in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope?” Well Marvel’s new series about the infamous Sith Lord might start putting those pieces together. Darth Vader started with its first issue when it hit the shelves today, and although it might have had a short start, it shows a lot of promise in the upcoming issues.
Starting directly (Yes, I mean directly) after the events of Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader struggles with his loss of Padmé while also completing his path to the dark side. As he adapts to his new cybernetic suit, Vader must also prove his might to his master, Emperor Palpatine.
The first issue of this series kept me hooked from cover to cover! The character development of Darth Vader and his relationship with the Emperor is very intriguing. I learned a lot more about how Vader adapts to his suit and uses it to his advantage. While most of this issue is dialogue, it still hooked me in and made me wonder about Vader’s journey even more! My gripe about this comic would be that it was too short. I think it gives that feeling because the action really picks up towards the end.
Should You Read It?
Yes! Although this issue waits before the action sets in, the evidence of Darth Vader’s development as he adapts to his new world is tremendously intriguing! I was a bit bummed by the length of this issue, but the opportunities presented by the beginning of this series have left me very excited. I shall sit and wait eagerly for the next issue of Darth Vader.
