Hellboy Reboot To Start Production this Fall

Good news, Hellboy fans! The David Harbour-led Hellboy reboot will begin filming this coming fall. Hellboy himself told TheWrap that he was to start using his Right Hand of Doom starting in September. The Stranger Things star went on to talk about how Chief Hopper helped him steal the lead role. “I think he’s [Hellboy] just another complicated anti-hero who is not strictly good or bad, he’s just trying to do the right thing,” Harbour said, also claiming there are parallels between Hopper and Hellboy.

The previous two Hellboy films were helmed by Guillermo del Toro, who was reportedly eyeing the director’s chair for his third go at the character earlier this year. The role was nabbed, however, by Neil Marshall, who directed 2005’s The Descent and some Game of Thrones episodes.

According to Harbour, the movie will take a much darker tone than del Torro’s Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008). It was revealed just last month that the reboot would be aiming for an R-rating via Mike Mignola’s Facebook page. Mignola, who is joined by writers Christopher Golden and Andrew Cosby to pen the script, also teased for more news in the near future.

The upcoming reboot, currently titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, has yet to be given a release date. Excited for David Harbour’s Hellboy? Think it’s a mistake? Want to admit you’re secretly an alien? Let us know in the comments below!
