Last year it was revealed that Paramount Pictures would release a film centered around the fan favorite Autobot, Bumblebee. Little has been known about the movie until now.
Today we have been informed that the movie will be set in the 1980s and have less Transformers than the previous films. Given that Bumblebee speaks using audio clips from popular media on the radio it is likely that throughout the movie we will be hearing a lot of 80s audio, whether it be music or pop icons from that time.
Since the past Transformer films have been placed in the 2000s, it is going to be interesting to see what happened to Bumblebee years before Sam purchased him from a second rate car dealership.
The only known cast member so far is Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Pitch Perfect 2) who we know is going to be a teen mechanic. She will presumably work with Bumblebee, but in what way has not yet been announced.
Being that it is going to be the first Spinoff of the Transformers franchise, its success will likely determine if there will be more in the future. The film will begin principal photography this year and will be released on June 8th, 2018.
