The Hollywood Reporter announced that David Lindelof, creator of the The Leftovers television adaptation, is in talks with HBO to create a Watchmen TV series.

Although there is no official deal yet, the project is in early developmental stages. Warner Bros. has yet to comment. Zack Snyder was originally attached to the project in 2015 and directed the film adaptation in 2009, but he will no longer be a part.

Lindelof has praised Snyder’s take on Watchmen, telling The Observer, “It’s the most married-to-the-original-text version of Watchmen that could’ve been made.” He has also stated that he tries to put certain elements of Alan Moore’s writing into his own work. While it is only in early developmental stages, fans may be excited to see another adaptation of the graphic novel after the film received a controversial reception by both fans and critics. However, if Lindelof could create the same success he had with The Leftovers, a successful Watchmen TV series could be coming in the future.
