For those who don’t know, New Mutants is a spin-off film based on the X-Men universe. Rosario Dawson, aka Claire Temple from the Marvel Netflix shows, was slated to play Dr. Cecilia Reyes. Heroic Hollywood reported that Alice Braga will replace her character in New Mutants. There is no reason as to why Rosario Dawson is leaving the project. In the comics, Dr. Reyes saw her father gunned down. She vowed to become a doctor. She did so, but then discovered her mutant powers. She was offered a role at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, but declined it and kept her powers secret so she could continue being a doctor. For more on who she is, read this.
New Mutants is set to arrive in theaters on April 13, 2018 and stars Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair aka Wolfsbane, Blu Hunt as Moonstar, Anya Taylor-Jay as Magik, Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes, and more. Josh Boone is directing the project.
