After months of rumors and debates on who would be the better candidate for the lead, Daniel Craig is confirmed to bear the 007 code name again for his fifth James Bond film and the 25th in the popular franchise.

According to Mirror, producer Barbara Broccoli has secured Craig for the leading role. Previously, the British actor has stated that he would “rather slash his wrists” than play the iconic MI6 spy, but it looks like he had a change of heart. Some of the actors in sight for his replacement were Idris Elba (The Wire, Luther), Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road), James Norton (War & Peace), and Aidan Turner (Poldark, The Hobbit).

Broccoli also confirmed that Grammy Award winner Adele will be recording the film’s theme. She has previously worked with the Bond franchise, creating the iconic theme for the 2012 movie of the same name, Skyfall. The hit song has won a Grammy Award for “Best Song Written for Visual Media” and was the first Bond theme to ever win an award at the Golden Globes, Brit Awards, and the Academy Award.

Despite mixed reviews in the US, Spectre grossed $880.7 million worldwide in the box office, making it the second highest-grossing James Bond film in the franchise (after Skyfall). Critics and fans agree that Daniel Craig is one, if not, the best James Bond in the franchise due to the depth and grittiness of the character.

No release date or plot synopsis has been released for the future film, but Broccoli believes that they will start production next year.
