Universal is hoping to get their Dark Universe on track after The Mummy which received a mixed reception at best. The next film slated for the universe is Bride of Frankenstein on February 14, 2019. The film will be directed by Bill Condon (Beauty and the Beast) and is rumored to have Angelina Jolie in the starring role. Johnny Depp will play the invisible man and Javier Bardem will portray Frankenstein’s monster in future installments of the universe.
Getting big name actors seems to be a trend for the universe and that looks to continue according to The Hollywood Reporter. THR recently reported that Universal was working on a script for a Van Helsing film and is aiming for Channing Tatum to take the lead role.
Van Helsing was first portrayed on the big-screen by Edward Van Sloan in the original 1931 Dracula. Anthony Hopkins played the vampire hunter in 1992’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the most recent portrayal of the character was by Hugh Jackman in 2004’s Van Helsing. It will certainly be interesting to see the direction and changes this universe takes in the coming years.
