While many films have spent time under re-shoots, Justice League’s have caused a stir between actors’ schedules and studio budget.
Variety writers Justin Kroll and Brent Lang have reported the film’s cost of re-shoots have totaled to nearly $25 million. While most movies spend approximately $6 million to $10 million on re-shoots, Justice League has nearly doubled the average. The extra production time has also taken a toll on actors Henry Cavill and Ezra Miller.
While filming has occurred in both London and Los Angeles, the actors have had conflicts accommodating their schedules due to other projects. Miller, who is currently working on the sequel of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, has had help from Warner Brothers, who oversees both of his current projects, by working with the schedules of both films in order for him to make shootings. Cavill, who is currently working on the sixth Mission: Impossible movie has had a more difficult time. It is reported that he has had to shave the beard he grew for his role in Mission: Impossible, in order to fit his role of Superman. This requires the editors for Mission: Impossible to digitally remove his beard in the scenes they have filmed during post-production.
Although the film’s re-shoots may sound complex, Ray Fisher who plays Cyborg in the film said, “They’re brief if anything,” while at San Diego Comic Con, then complimenting Whedon’s work in wrapping up the film. Ben Affleck would go on to also make clear that he is not leaving the role of Batman. Therefore, the crew does not seem worried about the extensive re-shoots. It should also be noted that most movies have re-shoots, and while they have caused panic by audiences, the films have turned out successful. Examples of this are Rouge One: A Star Wars Story and Deadpool.
Justice League releases November 17, 2017, and will star Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher.
