Way back in May of 2013, Xbox Entertainment Studios President Nancy Tellem and 343 Industries’ Bonnie Ross announced a live-action TV series based on the best-selling video game Halo was in development for Showtime. However, after that announcement, not much else was released. Following that news, Steven Spielberg was brought on to develop the series. The project was slated to debut in October of 2015, but that timeline didn’t really work.

After layoffs and cutbacks, Microsoft shut down Xbox Entertainment Studios for the summer of 2014, and setbacks seemed to become the norm.  The live-action webseries Halo: Nightfall was released to a less-than-stellar welcome, casting doubt over the future of the live-action Showtime series. Despite all this, 343 Industries continuously confirmed that the series was still in development. After a few years of this, AR12 Gaming has reached out to Microsoft for some more details on the mysterious series. Below is the official statement given by a 343 Industries spokesperson:

“Progress on the Halo Television Series continues. We want to ensure we’re doing this the right way together with a team of creative partners (Steven Spielberg and Showtime) that can help us build the best Halo series that fans expect and deserve. We have no further details to share at this time.”

This statement clarifies that Spielberg and Showtime are still on board for the project, and that it is still in the works. Unfortunately, there is no new timeline for this series, or any new details pertaining to cast or plot, but at least we know Master Chief is still on his way to the small-screen! Share your thoughts on the project in the comments section below!
