I’ll be honest, and I’ve been wanting to share this opinion for a long time, I was extremely disappointed when I heard that Rick Famuyiwa departed from The Flash’s solo outing in the DC Extended Universe. Dope was such a solid film dealing with geeks, unexpected journeys, and shenanigans. All are qualities I would have enjoyed in the titular DC Comics hero’s adaptation. Additionally, when Famuyiwa signed on, he brought Clemons onto the film as Iris West, The Flash/Barry Allen’s love interest, and luckily she still remains a staple of the DCEU overall. Not only will she star in the solo film, but Justice League as well.

Clemons had this to say about her experience in filming for Justice League in an interview with ComingSoon.net:

“[…] the parts that I did introducing Iris are f*cking sick. I can’t wait to see the movie. I’m so happy that I’ve been introduced to this genre because I didn’t really have any type of desire to be a part of any superhero world. And then I stepped on the set of “Justice League” and I was like, ‘Holy sh*t. Alright!'”

With Clemons using these words to describe Iris’ first appearance in the DCEU, especially since she herself didn’t expect to even be involved, it can be said November can’t come fast enough! To think the DCEU is shaping the actors involved makes me wonder how gratifying its future will be.

Furthermore, when it comes to the Flashpoint film, she goes on to say:

“I am just taking it project by project. I have so many projects in the works that I’m not necessarily gonna be on camera for but I’m producing and writing. I’m kind of filling this space by working on that stuff so when it comes around for Flash I can get our movie done and then I can produce my own stuff. The Flash is gonna be taking up a lot of my time throughout the year acting, so I want to make sure I’m preparing to do the other things I wanna do when it comes to creating and casting!”

The actress wants to both widen and deepen her scope as a filmmaker and that makes me think she’ll have more to bring to the table for The Flash solo-film than just her acting. She was one of the coolest characters in Dope, and maturing in filmmaking will only add to her talents, not to mention her devotion of time to the film. Her with Geoff Johns and my (and I’m sure most’s) hopeful choice for a director, Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future) could create one of the greatest superhero adaptations of our time.
