Guardians of the Galaxy, despite the characters being not-well-known by general audiences, blew everyone away back in 2014. The hype was great for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and I personally enjoyed it more than the first film. Now, not only will the third installment be an entry in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Phase 4, but so will many other of Marvel’s cosmic stories! The man that helmed the initial embarkment into the beyond himself, James Gunn, said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
“Those scripts are already in the works. Kevin [Feige] and I talk about it all the time, we just had a meeting today. Discussing what is the next iteration of cosmic characters and where are the characters that we’ve already created going to go in the next batch of films.”
The first Guardians film introduced us to the Celestials and the Nova Corps, the second confirmed the existence of the Watchers and Adam Warlock in his cocoon. It would be absolutely stellar to get a Nova solo film, a MCU event film involving Uatu, and many more! I am unaware of the status of Galactus and Silver Surfer, although I’m pretty sure they’re still with Fox. Maybe, much like Spider-Man with Sony, a deal can be struck for at least Galactus. I for one would love to see Beyonder bring everyone into Secret Wars. Regardless, this development opens up many more doors for the consistently bright future of the MCU, not just in characters, but setting and story.
