Looking back on my childhood, the most memorable part of The Lion King was its soundtrack. The songs included were ‘Circle of Life’, ‘I Just Can’t Wait to Be King’, and ‘Hakuna Matata’. Even though much of the news surrounding the live-action remake has had to do with the voices we’ll be hearing on screen, the music is finally being touched upon.

The most recent development is the soundtrack, according to The Tracking Board might just be produced by none other than Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Beyoncé. She is also in the running to voice Simba’s love interest, Nala.

So far, the cast consists of: Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as, Timon the meerkat, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa the warthog, and John Oliver as Zazu. Recently added are John Kani as Rafiki and Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mother, Sarabi. Much like Beyoncé for Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor is in negotiations to voice Scar. The voices of these that have a part in singing those original songs being guided by Beyoncé should make for a amazingly beautiful soundtrack.

Something that should be considered is the script has been written by Jeff Nathanson, which could call for new musical scenarios, thus calling for new songs. Original songs are said to be coming from Beyoncé in addition to the classic tracks. It will definitely be interesting to see her put her soul into this remake.
