Back in January, it was reported that Season Two of Atlanta was to be delayed until 2018 due to creator Donald Glover’s busy schedule with his work in the upcoming Han Solo film and his deal with FXX to bring an animated Deadpool series.
The rapper also appeared as Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming which was released this year, and it was recently confirmed to lend his voice for the upcoming live-action Lion King film. Therefore it’s understandable why the FX series was on hold. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait much longer!
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Atlanta Season Two will start production in September. There’s currently no information on what will happen this season, but THR has stated that Glover’s personal life, him being a parent now, will play a factor into the show due to his character being a young father himself. He says that he’s “now better able to relate to his character.”
In a separate interview with the BBC Radio 1 Show, Glover talked with Clara Amfo about his upcoming role in Star Wars, his new music and the Atlanta series. Even though he has a busy schedule, he explained that he’s finding time for Season 2.
“I’m not the type of person to rush anything,” he said. “I feel like if you rush it, you’ll start to get something you don’t want and then you start to question why you even liked it. I’m not gonna make anything until it’s ready. But to be completely honest, it’s almost ready. I’m pretty happy with a lot of the things, and I think it’s better than the first season.”
Atlanta first aired on September 6, 2016 and was received with high praise from critics and fans. The series has won two Golden Globes awards, one for “Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy” and “Best Actor – Musical or Comedy.”
