At San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Studios showed their first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War to the crowd! Here’s a quick recap of the events, in case you weren’t able to see it:

We open to the Marvel opener, hearing what sounds like Steve Rogers saying “We’ll lose, and we do that together too.”

In the beginning shot, we see the Guardians of the Galaxy aboard the Milano flying through what appears to be the debris left behind from some sort of catastrophe. Mantis tells the crew that they’re arriving before asking what happened. Suddenly, a body hits the front glass of the ship. With a shocked Rocket shouting to “Get it off!”, the camera zooms in on the face. It’s Thor. The crew brings him into the ship and inspect him on a table. After being told to wake him by Peter, Mantis instructs him to wake up, and he shoots off of the table. He looks at the Guardians and asks them, “Who are you guys?” Then the Milano is shown flying through space with Thor inside with the Guardians.

A new clip begins showing Scarlet Witch standing in front of a flaming van. A quick transition leads to her deflecting some sort of energy blast with her magic and blowing up the van she was standing in front of. During this, we can hear Thor say, “Something’s very wrong.”

Next we see the boots and cloak of Loki as he walks over a couple of dead bodies in front of the flames of what could be the same van that Scarlet Witch blew up. We hear Gamora tell us, “Death follows him like a shadow.” Loki then holds out his hand and brings it up, showing that he’s holding the tesseract. Right before the cut, Gamora finishes her line with, “That’s who Thanos is.”

Another cut and a short clip of New York City before showing Peter Parker on a bus. He has his head down, and the camera is focused on his arm. Then we see the hairs on his arm stand up, indicating his Spider Sense. He looks up and out the window quickly.

Then we see a short clip of a ship plunging through the Earth’s atmosphere, fire slowly encapsulating it.

Cut again and Tony Stark, in the NEW Iron Man armor without the mask, stands with Peter Quill, Drax, Mantis, and Spider-Man (also without his mask) watching as the ship seen falling to Earth crashes down.

We next see a short clip of what appears to be a ruined battlefield, debris strewn everywhere. Thanos talks for the first time, saying, “Fun isn’t really something one considers when balancing the universe.”

It cuts again to the interior of what could be the Milano, destroyed and flaming. Gamora is standing inside and looks towards the camera dramatically. Thanos continues his sinister dialogue, telling us, “But this does put a smile on my face.”

Next Peter Quill watches as a blue portal opens up in front of him. Out steps our Mad Titan, Thanos.

We cut again to see Quill jumping from magical platform to magical platform conjured by Doctor Strange. Then he stands on a rock, the camera turns upside down, and he fires one of his guns forwards.

Another quick cut and Spider-Man is flipping down and landing, wearing the advanced spider suit Tony offered him at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming.

After this, we see a very brief scene of Bucky Barnes cocking a gun and standing with the Wakandan army. A spear is thrown at an indistinguishable character and it cuts again.

Scarlet Witch is again seen using her magic. It’s unclear what she’s doing with it, but her hand has the red aura around it. Thanos speaks to us again, informing someone that he, “knows what it’s like to lose.” Then, we see Vision locked into a cage (how does one lock Vision in a cage???).

Now, a black shadow stands in front of a brick wall. It’s hard to tell who it is before he steps out into the light, when we see that it’s Steve Rogers wearing a black costume and sporting a beard. Thanos continues his previous dialogue, continuing with the trend of his voice being spread over the trailer rather than confined to scenes. He says, “To feel so desperately that you’re right.”

Quick cut to creatures running through a field and Iron Man facing them. Then the Hulkbuster armor comes down to fight against the creatures.

Then we see a blonde haired Black Widow standing in a location that seems to be similar to the location we saw Rogers in. Thanos’s dialogue is back, saying, “But to fail just the same.”

Cut away from Black Widow to Black Panther fighting one of the creatures Iron Man was fighting in the same field that he was fighting them in.

Now to Falcon fighting against another indistinguishable character.

Next we see Iron Man land without his mask again, and crouch down over a maskless Spider-Man.

Another cut to Thanos clutching Thor’s head in his hand as he screams in agony.

Cut again and Nebula is standing in the ruined, flaming battlefield that we saw earlier in the trailer.

Now we see Doctor Strange standing on the steps of a building with two other characters. Something crashes down in a field and a battle goes on around it.

After yet another cut, we see a masked Star-Lord falling backwards in the flaming battlefield we’ve seen previously. Iron Man, also masked this time, looks down at him and then looks up menacingly. Thanos’s voice over is heard again. He says, “Run from it, but destiny still arrives.” The shot switches and shows him fighting Thanos, and getting beaten. Thanos walks towards the screen and clenches his fist, on which he is wearing the Infinity Gauntlet which appears to be missing one or two gems.

The screen cuts to black.

Now we see Iron Man look up, again unmasked, towards Thanos who raises his fist in the gauntlet and rains down fire and meteors.

The screen again cuts to black, and the Avengers: Infinity War title is put up on the screen.

In conclusion, it’s good to see what Marvel has in plan for their next movie. It looks amazing! For more news about Avengers: Infinity War and the MCU in general, follow Geek Motivation on Twitter and Instagram.
