Fan favorite vigilante, The Punisher, is set to take on his own solo Netflix series after his impressive debut in Marvel’s Daredevil.

The Punisher became a house hold name because of his brutal methods and extremely violent means of taking justice into his own hands. Because if this, Jon Bernthal believes audiences will have a more difficult time rooting for his character in his upcoming solo Netflix series.

Bernthal recently did an interview with Moviefone in which he discussed his role as Frank Castle aka The Punisher:

“It’s an interesting predicament. To put [the Punisher] as the central character is interesting, I think that my big struggle with him is that one of my biggest kind of things that I’m always fighting for on set is, I always want to preserve the essence of Frank, and have the right and be bold enough to really turn my back on the audience, and not do things to win the audience’s favor, but rather stay true to the character and the essence of who he is.”

It’s clear that Bernthal has a vision for his character that he wants to portray in this series. He goes on to say that he wants the show to explore the “pain behind the violence” of The Punisher.

Frank Castle was once a decorated Marine, but when his wife and children were murdered he adopted the name and mannerisms of The Punisher. It’s a story that many people can empathize with and we cannot wait to see Bernthal fully bring every aspect of Frank Castle to life in this upcoming series!

Marvel’s The Punisher will be available for streaming on Netflix sometime later this year.
