With the exit of Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the standalone Han Solo film, there have been extensive reshoots with the director of the film, Ron Howard. An unfortunate outcome from these reshoots, is Michael K. Williams role being cut entirely for the film. Luckily, the cut of his role was not in bad intentions, instead he simply could not attend the reshoots due to scheduling conflicts with another film he is shooting in Africa.

When asked about the role being cut Williams responded with an explanation “would have required me on a plane a month ago to London, to Pinewood, to do reshoots. But I’m here, on location in Africa. It’s scheduling. I’m not going to be back on the market until the end of November after [his SundanceTV series] Hap and Leonard, and for them to wait that long for me, that would have pushed back the release date, which I believe is in May 2018. They wanted me now; I couldn’t go. So they had to clip-clip-clip.” Williams re assured the fact that no hard feelings were left with him stating, “I left with a very good taste in my mouth about the whole family, and I hope that I left a good taste in their mouth. They’re a great group of people, the Lucas family.” We even got some insight on details of who his character was with him describing the character as half man and half animal.

It is nice to know that Williams is in good standing with the Star Wars team and so, maybe one day we can see him come back to the same role or even an entirely new character. Whatever Williams does in his career I’m sure we can see him return one day to the Star Wars franchise.
