Richard Rider may not be a familiar name to all followers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, those of us who have been reading about the Nova Corps in comics for years have been long asking the fateful question: Will we ever see Nova in one of these superhero blockbusters?

For those of you who may not know, Richard Rider/Nova is a superhero who has appeared in many of Marvel’s comics, including Fantastic Four and the New Warriors. Richard was originally a teen when he became Nova, and since then has teamed up with heroes such as Thor and Spider-Man, using his superhuman skills for the greater good.

After the Nova Corps were incorporated into the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, many have been wondering if Nova himself is to appear in any of the upcoming films. James Gunn, GOTG director, originally said in 2014 that he had no intention of incorporating Nova into the MCU in the near future, stating, “I don’t want Nova right now because I think Quill being the only earthling is important. That serves the entire movie going audience and not just the handful of Nova fans… I have nothing against Nova in future movies, but it doesn’t serve the movie right this moment.”

Now, in 2017, James Gunn might be more eager to feature the superhero in one of the movies in the foreseeable future. During a live Q&A recently with fans through Facebook, it was questioned whether he had any plans to include Nova in the MCU, and his response was “Yes, definitely. Nova comes up occasionally as someone we might use. One of the things I’m doing with creating Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3… it will take place after the next two Avengers movies and it will help to setup the next 10-20 years of Marvel movies. It’s going to really expand the cosmic universe. We’re going to be setting up new characters. It will be the last movie of this version of Guardians of the Galaxy.”

So what possibly could Marvel Studios have in store for the superhuman? Could it be a standalone movie that goes into depth with Nova’s backstory and alter ego Richard Rider? Or will we see him in one of the upcoming ensemble blockbusters very soon? Whatever it is, be sure to follow @GEEKMOTIVATION on Twitter so we can bring you the updates!
