We’re less than a year away from the premiere of one of Marvel’s next films, Black Panther, with the titular hero returning after his debut in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. And with only one teaser trailer released, marvel fans are eager for more details. Fortunately, Yahoo! revealed some of the toys part of the Black Panther toyline that may reveal additional details to what we’ll see in the film, which is certain in the case of Killmonger’s toy, which reveals a new look for the character.
First off, we got a new look for the lead himself T’Challa aka The Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman, where he has his regular Black Panther suit but with glowing vibranium, the main resource of T’Challa’s african kingdom Wakanda and the main component of the Black Panther suit. This look was previously revealed in concept art released in this year’s San Diego Comic-con.
This look could have been made only to promote the film, but the fact that it appears in both the concept art and the toys could also mean that this variation of the suit will appear in the film.
We also got a look a look at Wakanda’s princess Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, with her vibranium gauntlets, a look we already saw in the teaser trailer. Since Shuri in the film is a scientist who develops new technology for Wakanda and is described to have “a great fashion sense,” the gauntlets are likely of her making.
We also got a look at Black Panther’s new jet, which is different from the jet he uses in Captain America: Civil War and it has the cool feature of transforming into a giant robot panther. It looks similar to the new jet that we got a glimpse of in the teaser but the likely answer is that it’s just a toy made to promote the film. But a transforming jet/robot panther would be great to see in the film.
And last but not least, we got a new look at the antagonist of the film, Erik Killmonger played by Michael B. Jordan. It was confirmed at this summer’s Comic-con that, besides his normal look shown in the concept art above and the teaser, Killmonger would be wearing a gold-plated vibranium suit similar to T’Challa’s, in one of their confrontations. And by looking at the toy, it seems to be the case. The suit is indeed similar to the Black Panther suit, with the exceptions of the color scheme and the ferocious and animalistic mask to make it more threatening. Let’s hope it looks as cool when the film (or the next trailer) comes out.
Black Panther is the eighteenth installment of the MCU and it’s directed and written by Ryan Coogler. It is set to premiere on February 16, 2018.
