It was recently announced that Warner Brothers will be making two ‘Joker’ films.

Last year, we met Jared Leto’s Joker in ‘Suicide Squad’. Unlike the film and it’s mostly negative reviews, fans were left wanting, some could say needing, more. A lot of fans, myself included, didn’t know how to feel about this new Joker, especially since he seemed all but temporary, due to Warner Brothers’ full slate release, which included a sequel, as well as a few too many spin-offs for the character.

Heroic Hollywood reported it first.

Up until the last two weeks, we believed we would only be getting one to two films based entirely on The Joker and his mad world around him. We were wrong. Originally, the only film seemingly confirmed was a ‘Joker and Harley Quinn’ film, with The Joker also rumored to play the villain in a ‘Gotham City Sirens‘ film, with Jared Leto and Margo Robbie set to reprise their respective roles. It was recently confirmed that there were two ‘Joker’ films in simultaneous development.

A new film was announced. This film was not going to be set in the current DCEU (DC Extended Universe), instead it was going to be apart of a universe used to create new and unique stories that will expand DC’s canon.

The title-less film is said to be an origin story for the clown prince of crime, serving as a way to show The Joker’s origin in all of its glory.

The film has Todd Phillips (The Hangover) attached to direct, along with Scott Silver (8 Mile), as well as himself, writing the script. Phillips will also be producing the film, alongside Hollywood legend, Martin Scorsese.

With no surprise due to who is producing the film, Leonardo DiCaprio is eyed to play the role of The Joker in this new flick. This would definitely be a good choice for Warner Brothers to make. DiCaprio is not only a proven actor, but a box office god as well. This will, without a doubt, be interesting to see how WB moves forward with this film.

The current Joker, Jared Leto, was not exactly all that thrilled to hear the news of a new Joker.

He was right there with the rest of us DC fans, in a world of confusion.

He had this to say:

“I’m a little confused too… but yeah, there are a couple of things happening in the DC world and I loved the Joker, he’s a great character — a really fun character to play.”

He went on to talk about what it is like to play such an iconic character

“It’s a big universe and when you play the Joker, there’s no ownership there… You have the honor of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off. But there are other films in development and I’m excited to see what comes from them.”

We’re just as excited and confused as you are Jared.

What do you think? Was this a good decision from Warner Brothers? Is Jared Leto going to be overshadowed by Leonardo DiCaprio? Will the new ‘Joker’ film usher in a fresh change WB has been looking for? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
