It had been announced that 20th Century Fox was developing a film based on the Marvel anti-hero team X-Force, a team of mutants assembled to eliminate any threat to the mutant race. The film would be R-rated and have Deadpool and Cable as leaders of the team. Now, X-Force has finally found its director and writer in Drew Goddard.

Drew Goddard has few directing credits, which include Cabin in the Woods (which he also wrote), and the upcoming Bad Times at the El Royale (which he is also writing), also produced by Fox and starring Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges. He’s more recognized as a screenwriter, having such writing credits as CloverfieldWorld War Z and The Martian, for which he got an Academy Award nomination. He also wrote episodes for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lost.

Most notably, he was the show-runner for 2015’s Daredevil TV show, wrote an episode of The Defenders and was set to write Sony’s Sinister Six before it was cancelled which shows he has experience with comic book based films and TV shows. His many writing credits make him fit to write the screenplay and, since he’s the showrunner for Daredevil, we can be positive he’ll deliver on the R-rated superhero action.

X-Force will be produced by Simon Kinberg, Ryan Reynolds, and Lauren Shuler Donner. It has no release date as of yet.
