After a two-month delay from its North American debut, Spider-Man: Homecoming finally released into China on Friday, earning a $23 million on opening day, including about $1 million in Thursday previews.Today it has reached an impressive $70.8M in the box office during its first weekend there. This brings the total worldwide income to $823m above the $821M global income of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and also above the $816m global income for Wonder Woman. If it holds up well, it could top $900M and become the highest grossing Spider-Man movie globally beating Spider-Man 3 which earned $890M.

This is absolutely unbelievable considering Spider-Man: Homecoming had bad marketing and a huge 73% drop during its second weekend. As someone who has loved the movie, I am glad that it is doing well in China.

Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May, under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark, Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man but when the Vulture emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will release digitally on September 26, followed by a Blu-ray and DVD release on October 17th.
