When we think of popular Marvel superhero groups we think of three big ones: The Avengers, X-Men, and The Fantastic 4, but Marvel Studios only has the rights to one of them. That might change in the future.

Back in the 60s, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created two groups that to this day are still well known. Those groups being The X-Men and The Fantastic 4. And with superhero movies taking the world by storm it is only appropriate that these characters make their way to the big screen. Well they already have, but they havent been released by Marvel Studios. Fox owns the rights to both these groups and have made movies for both of them. A lot of people are not fans of the approach Fox has taken in these films, but some also love it.

Well, former writer and vice-president of Marvel, Stan Lee has recently said, “Sooner or later, they’re going to get the rights back to all our characters,” Lee said, “They’re working on it, and they’re still making X-Men movies and stuff. Don’t worry about it. You’ll get more Marvel superheroes than you’ll have time to look at in the next few years.

So now we have to ask if Fox giving rights to Marvel is even a good idea for them. Starting with The Fantastic 4, we see that it has done poorly when adapted onto the big screen. The 2015 adaptation was given terrible reviews and was not well-liked by fans. Now even though the previous version was not met with nearly as many poor reviews, it still was not that successful. So looking at this, Fox would not be losing too much if the rights for The Fantastic 4 were transferred to Marvel Studios.

Now the X-Men is a different story. In the past films, the success has fluctuated greatly, but for the most part they seem to be very sucessful. Especially with how well Deadpool and Logan did in the box office, it is not likely Fox will be giving up the title so easily. Now this isn’t set in stone, we could see an agreement like the one Marvel and Sony made for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Sony still has the rights for it, but allows Marvel to make movies using the character. We could see the same with the X-Men in the future.
