That’s right, Marvel’s newest installation to their Netflix TV shows, The Punisher, will not connect to the heroes knows as the The Defenders. When The Defenders first aired on Netflix last August, fans were not teased with a Frank Castle cameo, and it is likely there will not be a cameo featuring any of the other Defenders.
However, it has already been revealed that Deborah Ann Woll will reprise her roll as Karen Paige, a prominent character in Dardevil TV series; Rob Morgan will also reprise his role as Turk Barret. Other than these two characters, don’t get your hopes up that Matt Murdock (Daredevil), Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, or Danny Rand (Iron Fist) will make an appearance. As Jon Bernthal put it himself:
“We are stripping down every supernatural element. This show is different. It looks different. Frank is a character rooted in the most basic human emotions… He’s a comic-book character, but he doesn’t fly, he doesn’t have X-ray vision. He’s an unbelievably skilled soldier who’s been very, very angry and very, very hurt.”
That being said, it seems as if The Punisher will feature elements that the other Marvel Netflix TV shows have yet to introduce. With a released image of Frank Castle in a military uniform, its likely that the show will explore the elements of Frank’s horrific past to help viewers understand Frank’s motives for becoming The Punisher.
The Punisher, starring Jon Bernthal, is set to release sometime later this Fall.
