Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi is giving a fairly small role to a friend of his in the upcoming film.

At a Japan press conference Johnson confirmed that Levitt, who was a lead in a couple of Johnson’s previous movies, will appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“My very good friend, the actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was in a movie I had made called Looper, he does a cameo as a voice of an alien in the film,” Johnson said. “So it’s a very brief little thing, but it’s fun, and if you watch the movie maybe you’ll able to hear and pick out Joe’s voice in the movie.”

Johnson is continuing a somewhat new tradition of bringing on stars to cameo in the Star Wars series. As JJ Abrams did with James Bond star Daniel Craig, who played a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
