It is very well known that Universal has no plans as of right now for a Hulk stand-alone movie. While fans have been clamoring for a stand-alone with Mark Ruffalo in the MCU, Thor: Ragnarok will start a new three part story arc for him.
According to Mark Ruffalo and Kevin Fuji, the arc will start in Thor: Ragnarok and end in Avengers 4. Ruffalo said:
“‘If you were gonna do a… if we were going to do a standalone Hulk movie, what would it be?’ And I said, ‘I think it should be this, this, this, and this and this, and ends up like this.’ And he’s like, ‘I love that. Why don’t we do that in the next three movies, starting with Thor 3 and then we go into Avengers 3 and 4.’ And I was like, ‘That sounds great!’ And so we are at the beginning of this arc.”
With Hulk starting to actually develop his own science of idea and being able to talk and think like his comic counterpart, the development is crucial to the character. Ruffalo then goes on to say:
“Hulk speaking is the start to separating of these two individuals, these identities in this split-identity person, and where that’s going to end up going. So it was really interesting to me.”
On a personal level, I would like to see how this approach goes. Mark Ruffalo is the perfect Hulk in my eyes, and who knows, maybe the success of his character could come around and let MCU get a shot at making a stand-alone Hulk film! Let us know what you think!
