Warning: Spoilers for episode 6 of Stranger Things season 2 ahead!
This episode introduced a turning point for the season, and showed us the conflict that our heroes would have to deal with to save Hawkins yet again.
We open to Will in the hospital, who was left without memory after his mental attack that he went through in the previous attack. This is also where we find out that the shadow monster is actually a virus, and Will is the host. The episode also dealt with the story concerning Jonathan and Nancy, where they are trying to get answers for the death of Barb.Throughout the episode they slowly grow fonder and fonder of each other, and they end up spending the night with each other, finally admitting their feelings for one another. We also get to see Dustin and Steve hunt down Dart. Through this, its revealed that Dart is one of many other “Demi-dogs”, a dog-like Demigorgon. In this episode, we also see Eleven discover she has a sister. Back at the lab, it is revealed that Will is a spy for the shadow monster, and as long as he knows where they are, the dogs will attack. At the end of the episode, we see the dogs climbing up the gate, preparing to attack. This was an episode of pure story building, and I was okay with it. There was very little action in this episode. Here we see some of the comedy talents that Gaten Matarazzo and Joe Keery possess, as they have a lot of interaction in this episode. We got to see some the crazy that Winona Ryder has in her in this episode. She cried, yelled, stressed, and much more. She brought her talents in this episode.
The pros of this episode were: the writing, the dialogue between characters, the cute little moments between characters here and there, and the cliffhanger left at the end.
The cons were: Jim Hopper. He just didn’t have a lot to do this episode, Bob as well.
This was a fun episode, it was cool to see a different element introduced, and it was a fresh take on some beloved characters.
All in all, I give this episode an 8.5/10.
What did you think? Did you like this episode? Why or why not?
