What do you get when you mix anger, trust, and justice? The answer is another chaotic episode of Gotham. Here is a review of the season’s seventh episode titled A Day in the Narrows.

Plot Summary
Starting where Hog Day Afternoon left off, Jim Gordon and the Gotham Police Department continue their manhunt on the perilous Professor Pyg. Penguin decides to lend a hand.
Meanwhile, Ra’s al Ghul’s death has an impact on the other characters. Barbara Kean considers cutting ties with Selina Kyle and Tabitha Galavan. Selina and Tabitha prove that the troublemaking business must keep running. Bruce Wayne has anger management problems and goes out with old peers from his old school.
Discussion
In this episode, we find Bruce having difficulty coming to terms with all the intense situations he has been enduring. We see him fighting off anger by being tempted to beat up another teenager bad-mouthing Alfred Pennyworth. His best friend/ loyal butler says that “anger is concealing what’s really going on; unless you face it full-on, it will consume you and it will erupt.” This teaches us that we need to keep our emotions in check because we never know who might be affected. In Bruce’s case, he uses his billionaire brat status to mask his true emotions. This eventually leads to his playboy reputation as an adult.
The tension between Jim and Harvey grows. The former tries telling everyone what is right and just while being reminded that he is “one of the good ones.”
Overall, A Day in the Narrows shows good character development, especially with Bruce and Jim. Hopefully, we see more episodes with Barbara, Tabitha, and Selina in action. In addition, their scenes definitely pass the Bechdel Test, and maybe we can see more episodes focused on the female characters.
Easter Eggs, References, and Trivia Facts:
- Headhunter – A moronic assassin whose signature move is having a second shot at his victim(s) despite the first already being successful, his physical appearance looks just as great his comic book counterpart.
- Thomas “Tommy” Elliot/ Hush – In Bruce’s side of the story, an old character from Season 1 returns. In the comic book lore, Elliot is a childhood friend of Bruce’s who also comes from a wealthy family. His life turns for the worse and eventually, he becomes the sociopathic supervillain Hush.
