Oh hi, fellow geeks. Today, before the release of the new film, The Disaster Artist, starring James Franco and Seth Rogan, we’re gonna look at the original cult hit that started it all. Before we get into the review, just keep this in mind. This is a real movie.

The Room tells the story of Johnny (Tommy Wiseau), a banker, devoted friend, and all-around great guy. While Johnny goes through the “normal” motions of his life, his fiance, Lisa, proceeds to have an affair with his best friend, Mark. Lisa’s lies and deception bring a turn of events that destroy everything Johnny values most. Can you really trust anyone?

Ok. Now that I’m done pretending to take this review seriously, let’s get into this awful masterpiece. What’s wrong with The Room? Well, what isn’t wrong with this movie? You could write a book about all of the faults in this film, which has already been done. There’s horrific sets and green screen effects, horrendous acting, hamfisted dialogue, a plot that makes no sense, characters that have no purpose, overly used and drawn out sex scenes, and the list goes on and on. Seriously, there’s so much to say about this movie that I ran out of breath just while typing this article.

Despite all of what I just said, this movie is amazing. This is truly a film that is so bad that it is good. All of the blunders in its filmmaking make it funnier than most comedies out there. The Room is, unintentionally, one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. It’s almost hard to describe the amount of entertainment it has from all of its awful dialogue to its nonsensical filming of unrelated scenes.

Believe it or not, it’s really hard to give a solid review of The Room. It’s so bad, but so good. It has so many bad qualities, but those qualities make the film ironically fun to watch, and for that I’m giving The Room two different ratings. I would definitely recommend this movie because it is such a blast.

Filmmaking quality: 1/10

Entertainment quality: 9/10
