Ever since the release of Iron Man in 2008, Jon Favreau, much like the title character, has been soaring through the film industry with some of the most spectacular productions in his continued involvement with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Disney as a whole with features like The Jungle Book and the upcoming The Lion King in 2019. Today, it was announced that Favreau is going to be embarking even further in his creations, beyond this galaxy and into that of Star Wars.

Lucasfilm signed the emmy-nominated producer on to both executive produce and write a live-action series for Disney’s new streaming service. Favreau is already part of this world, in acting roles for both Star Wars: The Clone Wars as Pre Vizsla and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had this to say on Favreau:

“Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

Kennedy could not have put it better. Favreau, with his epic talent sparked an entire franchise from Iron Man, similar to how George Lucas did with Star Wars. Tony Stark’s schtick is engineering, so maybe Favreau can tell a story focusing on the engineers of behind the technology seen in Star Wars. Favreau has even helped bring to life films like Zathura: A Space Adventure and Cowboys & Aliens, both quality space adventure films in their own right. The possibilities of where the stories could go are endless, and one thing’s for sure: everyone’s excited to have Favreau on board.

On that note, I’d like to leave you all with a piece of motivation from the man himself:

“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
