With the anticipation of Avengers: Infinity War rising and rising, I would like to take some time to consider what will happen after the climatic giant. What will the new line up look like? What will happen to our beloved characters? And how far could we go down the road?

THE NEW ROSTER

Over the ten years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe we have seen our characters grow and change; Iron Man, the father of the MCU, has evolved from an iron monger, selling his weapons to terrorist, to helping those who cannot help themselves, to having post-traumatic stress disorder, to being a mentor to young and new superheroes. We’ve seen Captain America go from a scrawny man in the 1940s to becoming a super soldier in the modern day; from a man trusting of his government, to a man on the run and in hiding from the government across almost a decade. Therefore it is obvious that things aren’t going to be the same after Thanos attacks Earth.

I’ve been thinking for a while that Iron Man will no longer be a part of the MCU after Infinity War, either he is killed off or relegated to more of a mentor or supporting role like Nick Fury. I think this would be sort of poetic due to the fact that he was the one that started it all back in ’08. I think the rest of the Phase One heroes will follow.

Hawk-eye has retired, spending the rest of his life with his family. I am unsure of War Machine, I would say that due to his injuries sustained in Civil War, it is unlikely that anything will happen to him in the next instalment into the franchise so the will live to fight in the future. But you never know… Vision is the true out-lier here… For Thanos to collect all of the Infinity Stones, Vision has to be taken out of the situation but I am unsure what will happen to him after that.

Ant-man, The Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, Spider-man, Black Panther, Falcon and The Winter Soldier are left as the large headliners of the new team:

THE X-MEN AND FANTASTIC FOUR

As we know already, the Disney-Fox merger allows us to potentially see the likes of Deadpool, The Fantastic Four and The X-men fight along side our beloved Avengers.

The X-Men universe could easily be rebooted to sync up with the MCU but wouldn’t that be a waste of 18 years worth of X-men goodness? In one way, yes because we have grown to love and adore these characters, especially those featured in the early films. In another way… No. It’s like fox saw this coming when they made Logan, providing a solid ending to the franchise, yes we’re still getting Deadpool and New Mutants and so on… But Logan was the perfect end to some characters, we saw them beating down until they can only fight once more.

However, maybe you could see the old cast again… With the established multiverse in Doctor Strange and the Upcoming Spider-verse movie, we’re slowly warming up to the idea of colliding comic book universes and worlds. This is groundbreaking as far as franchising goes, we have the potential to see all three Spider-men fighting alongside. imagine Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine taking on the Hulk or Magneto clashing with Iron Man, or Storm lifting Thor’s hammer, or The Thing arm wrestling Captain America. With the multiverse you can change events, offer up alternate stories where Wolverine has not died and Mjölnir is still intact. Anything could happen.

All in all, the the future of the Marvel Universe is the biggest blank canvas I could ever imagine. The more you think about it, the more your brain starts to melt with excitement. I know mine does….
