Ant-Man and the Wasp opens in theaters today and Geek Motivation is here to give the non-spoiler review for it!
Taking place before the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and The Wasp gives audiences something to truly put a smile on their face. Director Peyton Reed shows he can make this sequel work by giving a straightforward story and excellent pacing. Along with the humor and action audiences have come to expect from a Marvel film.
The movie should be titled “The Wasp and Ant-Man,” as Evangeline Lilly steals the show playing as Hope Van Dyne aka The Wasp, a strong female lead proving she can hold her own. She and Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man) have great on screen chemistry. Rudd also delivers with his quirky humor and charm as Scott Lang/Ant-Man. The supporting cast of Michael Douglas (Dr. Hank Pym), Michael Peña (Luis), and Randall Park (Agent Jimmy Woo) give top notch performances. The antagonist of the film is Ghost, who is played by Hannah John-Kamen. Marvel seemed to be finding luck with its villains past few films, but Ghost seemed to fall a bit flat. While there are different intentions and reasons to her actions, it felt there was still something missing to make the character great. This would be the only major criticism of the film, as its action and humor helps overlook this.
Overall, Ant-Man and The Wasp is a fun film that will please Marvel fans and casual movie audiences. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it an 8/10. Also, make sure to not get out of the theater right away when credits roll, as there are two end credit scenes!
