WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens and Star Wars Episode VII: The Last Jedi.

With returns of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa being featured in the sequel Star Wars trilogy, fans have been clamoring for more original trilogy characters to appear. Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and the late Carrie Fisher all reprised their iconic roles, but there’s been one character missing: Lando Calrissian.

Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian in Empire Strikes Back

We most recently saw the suave Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, played by Donald Glover. Solo told the origin story of Han Solo, as well as the origin of his friendship with Calrissian. In Star Wars canon, Lando has appeared in many comics and novels, as well as TV shows and movies. His feature in Empire Strikes Back is his most notable appearance, where he betrays Han and leads Darth Vader to his location.

As for Williams, since his last Star Wars film Return of the Jedi in 1983, he has voiced Calrissian in many video games and TV shows including both of the new Battlefront games, and Star Wars Rebels. His veteran presence will be important considering the untimely death of Carrie Fisher, and the deaths of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. Will Lando be the only original trilogy character in Episode IX? Only time will tell. What role do you think Calrissian will play in the sequel trilogy’s finale?
