It has been said over and over and over again that all Sony have in mind for Venom is to make money. However, since the announcement of Tom Hardy in the leading role and Ruben Fleischer as director (known for his work on Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less, a couple of favourites of mine if I may say so) I have thought that something actually quite interesting my come of this.

Now, Tom Hardy has said in an interview with Total Film Magazine there will be a trilogy…

“I’m open to whatever you want to do with it,” he says. “We’ve signed up for three of them. So it’s very much an open case. We’ll see what people’s responses are to it. I think it’s an awesome character. I love playing both of them. It’s an amuse-bouche, and for Sony, it’s the Venom-verse launched in isolation, as it were.”

What I find interesting here is his use of the word “isolation”. To me, this seems like it is totally unrelated to the the films of the MCU and it’s great. Not that there’s anything wrong with the Marvel films, it’s just that I’m a strong believer in the phrase “variety is the spice of life”.

I feel that, if the Venom trilogy is good with a fully complete and contained story, like The Dark Knight Trilogy, it could provide a nice release from the giant scale family friendly empire of the MCU. This is just like the escape we had with the Deadpool films, although with the Disney-Fox merger, we don’t quite know if we have more of those.

But what do you think about Hardy’s words? Does a completely separate story interest you? And if so, what kind of story would you like to see? Let us know @GEEKMOTIVATION
