We may be losing Henry Cavill as Superman.

Reports are coming out left and right that Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel, Mission Impossible: Fallout) has exited his role as Superman within WB’s DCEU. Reports came in earlier today that the actor has decided to exit the franchise amid Warner Bros./DC Universe “shake-up.”

The Hollywood Reporter reported that sources have claimed it is due to contract disagreements between W.B. and Cavill, concerning a Shazam! cameo. Fans were hopeful that the heroic Man of Steel would make an appearance in the film, slated to release April 5, 2019. There were reportedly issues between Cavill’s WME reps and W.B., and now it seems that Cavill has left the role entirely. Reports claim that it was due to scheduling conflicts, which makes sense, considering that Henry Cavill is signed on to star in the Netflix series The Witcher, premiering sometime next year.

W.B. has shown no signs of preparing for a Man of Steel sequel, especially considering that the only Kryptonian film confirmed to be in development is an origin film based around Supergirl. The Hollywood Reporter has also stated that a source claims we may not see another Superman film for a long time, claiming “Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors,”. This fans the flame in regards to this rumor.

Along with Cavill, Ben Affleck is reportedly leaving his role as Batman. The star has seen a number of issues within the franchise in regards to Matt Reave’s upcoming The Batman solo film, set to begin production mid-2019.

In regards to this news, W.B. has released an official statement, which you can read down below.

“We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged. Additionally, we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films,”

Cavill’s agent also tweeted,

“Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet. has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe. Anticipate a WB statement later today.”

Considering today’s reports, and these statements, we here at Geek Motivation would like to stress that this is still a rumor, and cannot claim these reports to be fact until we receive an official statement from Henry Cavill and Warner Bros., regarding Henry Cavill’s future in the DCEU. We will continue to update our readers as news is released.

What do you all think? Is Henry Cavill leaving the DCEU, or is this all just the product of a misinformed media?
