With the recent success Venom at the box office, Sony seems to be fast-tracking their Venom-verse (that is what I am calling Sony’s Marvel cinematic universe). Their slate of movies consists of Jared Leto’s Morbius film, a Silver Sable solo film, and a Black Cat solo film. Sony has another project in the works tied to one of the Web Head’s most famous villains. Kraven the Hunter, is currently being written by Richard Wenk who recently has just written the script for The Equalizer 2.

This week, Wenk sat down and interviewed with the Youtube channel Discussing Film (link below to full interview). During the interview, he began to answer some questions about the early process of the film.

Details

While he does state that he is just beginning to write the film, some of the writer’s thoughts are very interesting. His first significant comment is his search for inspiration. He states: “I think we are a circle around the infamous Kraven’s Last Hunt”. What is interesting about this part is, right after, he states whether the movie he is about to start writing is either a precursor or the actual story itself.

Kraven’s Last Hunt is argued by many to be Spider-Man’s best story, so it will be interesting to see how he attacks the aspect of the story without Spider-Man. Another interesting part of the interview was a question asking if he would want his friend Antoine Fuqua to come and direct the project at Sony. Rumors have been speculating that Sony eyed him for the project. Unequivocally, he states yes as he “always has him to his ear.”

Last, but certainly not least, the comment that stands out from the whole interview is when Wenk is talking about the script itself. Here, he quickly mentions it “is going to incorporate Spider-Man in some way.” This is quite interesting for many reasons. When it comes to Kraven’s origin, Spider-Man is not involved. Also, the more obvious fact is that Sony cannot currently put Spider-Man in their movies as Tom Holland is in the MCU doing wonders for the character. It will be interesting to hear more about the development of the Kraven movie!

For all things geek, you are in the right place!
