Donkey is getting back in the swamp! As reported by Variety, both Shrek and Puss in Boots are getting rebooted by Illumination Studios. This comes as a major surprise nobody was expecting. The cult classic film is going to be lead by the same studio that made the Despicable Me franchise and most recently tackled The Grinch, which is in theatres this weekend. When asked in the interview about some of the things the studio wants to keep, it was the star-studded cast. If you think about it, they are right: the cast was filled with great performances all around, from Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, to Mike Myers as Shrek himself. It is only right they would “get the band back together”, so to speak.
What would you want out of a reboot for this movie? Personally, I think a new direction with the film would be cool, exploring a different side of fairy tales and fiction categories. At the same time, who else feels super old now? It feels like I was just a kid going to see the original Shrek and now years go by and all of a sudden it gets rebooted. Let us know what you think! Is it too soon for a reboot? What would you like to see out of the reboot? For all things geek, you are in the right place! Stay motivated!
