Even though production for the Todd McFarlane’s Spawn film has been delayed, details around the Jamie Foxx (Baby Driver) and Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) lead movie has surfaced.

According to SuperBroMovies, the film will focus on NYPD detective Twitch (played by Renner) on a quest for revenge after the loss of his daughter due to gang violence. With the help of his ex-partner Danny, both will take on the criminal world in New York and find out that “two of the largest organizations are teaming up to take over the criminal underworld of the city.”

As Twitch realizes he’s in over his head, “…a mysterious man who has knowledge of his daughter’s death appears. It quickly becomes clear that Al (played by Foxx) is not who he appears to be, as he reveals himself to be Spawn, a messenger from hell who can aid Twitch in his search for justice.”

The 1997 reboot will take a major departure from the original narrative, as earlier in the year, reports have stated that the center of the film would be around Twitch and his family instead of Al Simmons’ origin as Spawn. This is a risky, but creative twist on the Image Comics tale. Thankfully, the film has an R-rating, slated for a 2019 release.
