Last Friday, the official Marvel website officially confirmed that a seventh season for the fan-favorite comic book series has been renewed by Disney’s ABC Studios. The news comes in a interesting time period as Season 6 for the Marvel TV show is still in production.
The most surprising part of this news is that lead actor Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson) is not on the cast list. This leads to fan speculation as to what will be the fate of their agent. The website post states:
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward.
Previously, SHIELD’s sixth season was renewed by ABC last-minute; right around Season 5’s season finale. While the latter left some loose ends in case it was ever picked up again, it was set to be an unofficial series finale. Fans of the show have been in constant fear of the series being canceled as Season 5 started in ABC’s infamous Friday Night Death Slot. Luckily, Disney still has faith in this small installment of the “Marvel Television” universe.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 will premiere Summer 2019 with a 13 episode run.
